Submissions

What genres do you publish?: Literary fiction, historical fiction, narrative nonfiction, memoir and biography, poetry, young adult, children's literature, and essays and criticism. Check our homepage for the current list of open submission categories.
Do you accept unsolicited submissions?: Yes. We accept inquiries from all writers regardless of prior publishing history. Use our Submit page to introduce yourself and your manuscript.
How long does the review process take?: We aim to respond to initial inquiries within 6-8 weeks. Full manuscript review can take an additional 8-12 weeks from request. We respond to every inquiry.
Do you accept previously published work?: If this work has been published before, HBB will need to review the prior publishing history before considering it. Authors may be asked to provide the prior agreement, rights-reversion documentation, ISBNs/ASINs, and a summary of changes. A revised edition or new ISBN doesn't override an active publishing agreement.

What does the review agreement cover?: The review agreement is a formal agreement that we will read your manuscript carefully and provide detailed feedback. It protects both parties and ensures we're both committed to the process.
What happens after a manuscript is accepted?: After acceptance, we work with you to prepare the manuscript for production: editing, cover design, layout, and print/digital distribution. You retain copyright.
How are royalties calculated?: Royalties are calculated on net sales and reported monthly in your author portal. We're transparent about our distribution partners and sales data.
